Keyboarding
Applications used:
- Microsoft Word
- GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
This class was introduced to touch keyboarding. They began by watching as a picture of a keyboard was edited on the large screen in the front of the room. The raised dots found on the "F" and "J" keys were notated, as were the remaining home row keys. The Lab Administrator then outlined the keys to be pressed by each finger. The students were told that each key was to have a specific finger to be used. These ginger assignments were outlined on the screen in the front of the room for the students. This image was placed on the screen in the front of the room for the entire session. They were then given the opportunity to practice typing using this technique.
Additional discussion
The students were also introduced to various features of Microsoft Word. The Formatting Pallet and Rulers were discussed. Students were encouraged to edit the size, shape and color of the words as they typed. They were also encouraged to use the ruler at the top of the window to modify the size of the margins.
